Caleb Banks MIN DT
Vikings' Caleb Banks: Expected back for training camp
10h agoCoach Kevin O'Connell said in June that Banks (foot), who did not participate in spring practices, is expected to be ready by the start of training camp, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
Minnesota's rookies are set to report to training camp by July 26, with training camp kicking off for the full team Aug. 1. The Vikings took a cautious approach in the spring with Banks, whom Minnesota drafted 18th overall in April. He sat out spring practices while recovering from a broken bone in his foot, which the defensive tackle out of Florida sustained at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

Ajani Carter: Expected to play this season
11h agoCarter is healthy enough to play in 2026 after undergoing and rehabbing from arthroscopic knee surgery, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Carter was waived from Houston's injured reserve list Wednesday, but he'll still need to pass a physical before getting another opportunity, whether it's with the Texans or a different team.

Ajani Carter: Let go by Texans

1d agoHouston waived Thomas (undisclosed) from injured reserve on Wednesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Thomas had been cut with an injury designation in May and subsequently reverted to IR. The 2024 fifth-round pick has totaled 10 tackles, including 2.5 sacks, and one pass breakup across 18 career regular-season games.

Terrion Arnold DET CB
Terrion Arnold: Let go by Detroit
3d agoArnold (shoulder) was cut by the Lions on Monday.
The news comes shortly after an Associated Press report that a Florida judge has set a $1 million bail in connection to Arnold's ongoing felony trial for charges of armed robbery and kidnapping. Arnold is unlikely to resume his NFL career until his legal proceedings conclude.

Omar Cooper Jr. NYJ WR
Jets' Omar Cooper: Solidifying spot in three-wide sets
3d agoCooper was the Jets' most impressive rookie in spring practices and looks to have solidified his spot in three-receiver sets, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
The Jets traded up into the first round to draft Cooper 30th overall. The versatile rookie out of Indiana played both on the outside and in the slot in college, which should help Cooper get on the field consistently alongside Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell. Per Geoffrey A. Knox of USA Today Jets Wire, Mitchell and slot receiver option Isaiah Williams were two of the Jets' top performers during the offseason program, so Cooper will need to continue building on his strong spring to secure playing time. That being said, Cimini expects Cooper's physical playing style to help the rookie shine even more once the pads come on in training camp.

Dustin May STL SP
Cardinals' Dustin May: Exits early with ankle injury
2h agoMay exited Thursday's start against Atlanta in the first inning with a right ankle contusion, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
May was making his first start since June 21 after his last turn in the rotation was skipped due to the right-hander dealing with back tightness. May struggled out of the gate Thursday, allowing the first three batters he faced to reach base before he was able to get Michael Harris looking for a strikeout. After Mauricio Dubon notched an RBI single in the next at-bat, Dominic Smith hit a 91.6 mph line drive up the middle and it hit off May's right ankle and rolled into foul territory for a double. May was able to remain in the contest for three more batters, but he was ultimately lifted for Justin Bruihl with two outs in the frame. May finished his day having allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning.

Alan Rangel PHI RP
Phillies' Alan Rangel: Sent back to Triple-A
2h agoRangel was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Pirates, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Rangel did not factor into the decision Thursday after he pitched four scoreless innings, surrendering three hits and four walks while striking out four batters during his start. He will now head back to Triple-A after combining to allow five runs while striking out 12 batters over 13 innings in three outings with Philadelphia following his call-up June 22. Rangel's spot in the rotation is set to appear one more time before the All-Star break, and the Phillies could go with a bullpen game in that contest.
-
Kris Bubic KC SP
Royals' Kris Bubic: Receives cortisone injection
2h agoBubic (elbow/shoulder) received a cortisone injection Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Bubic will be shut down for 7-10 days before the team will reevaluate where he's at. The southpaw has been sidelined since mid-May while nursing left elbow and shoulder discomfort, and he was shifted to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
-
Carlos Lagrange NYY SP
Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Placed on 7-day injured list
3h agoLagrange was placed on the 7-day injured list with a right shoulder injury Thursday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
Lagrange has not pitched with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since he allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while tossing two-thirds of an inning June 28. His lack of action can now be traced back to a shoulder issue, and he is expected to undergo an MRI in the near future. The right-hander had begun the process of transitioning from being a starter to working out of the bullpen, and he was on track to potentially join the major-league roster in the near future. His major-league debut will now have to be pushed further down the road.

Tommy Edman LAD LF
Dodgers' Tommy Edman: In updated lineup Thursday
3h agoEdman is slotted as starting at second base and batting ninth in Thursday's updated lineup versus the Padres, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
The initial lineup card for the Dodgers had Alex Freeland starting at second and batting ninth. It appears the lineup with Edman starting was put out as a correction and not a late scratch for Freeland.
-
Jason Adam SD RP
Padres' Jason Adam: Hits IL with shoulder strain
3h agoThe Padres placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Tuesday, with a right shoulder strain.
In a corresponding move, the Padres reinstated German Marquez (forearm) from the 15-day injured list. Adam will be eligible to return after the All-Star break if he's recovered by then. The reliever had a 0.90 ERA heading into June, but he had a 5.11 ERA across his 12.1 innings pitched during that month.

Ugonna Onyenso DET C
Pistons' Ugonna Onyenso: Inks two-way deal
1h agoOnyenso agreed to a two-way contract with the Pistons on Thursday.
The No. 53 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, Onyenso appears poised to see run in the G League after putting pen to paper on a two-way deal. He'll likely face an uphill battle to carve out a role in the rotation, so Detroit will presumably allow him to continue his development with Motor City.
-
Tari Eason HOU PF
Rockets' Tari Eason: Staying with Rockets
2h agoEason agreed to a five-year, $81.5 million deal (fully guaranteed) to remain in Houston, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Eason was selected by the Rockets with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Since then, the 25-year-old appeared in 221 regular-season games for Houston, averaging 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 blocks and 1.3 steals over 23.6 minutes. Eason was on the radar of a few teams around the NBA, especially the Lakers. However, he will remain in Houston, where he will likely see most of his minutes off the bench. Eason isn't the most consistent scorer. Injuries have also been an issue. Still, he has value due to his defensive prowess and abilities on the glass, which should come in handy for a Rockets team looking to win a championship.

Suns' Pat Spencer: Lands two-way deal with Suns
3h agoSpencer agreed to a two-way deal with the Suns on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Spencer spent the last three seasons with the Warriors. While the 29-year-old didn't see consistent action for Golden State over the years, he is still coming off his best season, averaging 11.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 40.0 percent from deep over 29.6 minutes in 14 regular-season starts. David Rittich NYI G
Devils' David Rittich: Joining New Jersey
2h agoRittich signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Devils on Thursday, per PuckPedia.
Rittich had a 14-10-3 record, 2.76 GAA and .894 save percentage in 30 regular-season appearances with the Islanders in 2025-26. The 34-year-old netminder hasn't logged more than 34 games in a single regular season since 2019-20, but he might get a chance to do so with the Devils. New Jersey traded Jacob Markstrom (undisclosed) to Florida on Tuesday, which means Rittich is likely to open 2026-27 in a timeshare with Jake Allen. The 25-year-old Nico Daws might also be a factor, especially if he has a convincing training camp.
-
Cole McWard NYI D
Maple Leafs' Cole McWard: Inks two-year deal
4h agoMcWard signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with the Maple Leafs on Thursday, per PuckPedia.
McWard's new deal is a one-way contract in both years. The 25-year-old defenseman has logged nine career NHL games, earning one goal, eight shots on net, nine hits and 11 blocked shots. McWard will likely get a chance to compete for a roster spot with the Maple Leafs in 2026-27, but he'll probably spend most of the campaign with AHL Toronto.
-

Maple Leafs' Henrik Rybinski: Links up with Toronto
4h agoRybinski signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Maple Leafs on Thursday, per PuckPedia.
Rybinski had 30 points in 59 regular-season games with AHL Hershey in 2025-26. He's spent the last four years in the AHL and has yet to make his NHL debut. Expect Rybinski to play much of 2026-27 in the AHL.

-
Jakub Dobes MON G
Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Secures three-year contract
6h agoDobes signed a three-year, approximately $16 million contract with Montreal on Thursday.
Dobes made 43 regular-season appearances for the club last year in which he posted a 29-10-4 record, 2.78 GAA and .901 save percentage. The 25-year-old backstop figures to head into the 2026-27 campaign as the No. 1 option, but he will likely face challenges from Jacob Fowler for starts.
-
Leevi Merilainen OTT G
Senators' Leevi Merilainen: Re-signs Thursday
7h agoMerilainen signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract with the Senators on Thursday.
Merilainen had an 8-10-1 record, 3.51 GAA and .860 save percentage in 20 regular-season appearances with Ottawa in 2025-26. While those results leave plenty to be desired, the 23-year-old has the potential to bounce back. However, he'll have to compete with Samuel Ersson during training camp to earn the No. 2 job behind Linus Ullmark. If the 23-year-old Merilainen doesn't do enough to win an NHL roster spot, then he'll return to the minors to continue to hone his game.
