Analysis

I will gladly back the Phillies on the run line at home yet again with Cristopher Sanchez on the hill. The lanky left hander is 10-1 at home this season with a shiny 1.41 ERA. Philadelphia has won each of Sanchez's last five home starts by multiple runs, with a run differential of +34. Marlins hitters are a combined 9 for 53 (.170 average) so I wouldn't expect much from them offensively. Look for the Phillies to raise Janson Junk's 5.35 road ERA and win this one by daylight on Monday night.

The Mets have won three of their last four meetings with the Padres, but the Padres are coming in with Walker Buehler, who they've won their last six starts behind. He faced the Brewers and the Diamondbacks in his last two and only allowed two combined runs. Those were blowouts, with the Padres winning by 4 or more in each game. The Padres are hot at 67-58, while the Mets are looking at 2027 carpet samples. Padres to win.

Blake Snell was extremely impressive in his return to action after a lengthy hiatus. Snell fanned 10 batters versus a stingy Royals lineup needing just 84 pitches to get through 6 innings. He will now face a Rockies lineup with a top 5 K Rate against opposing southpaws. Snell also has excellent career strikeout numbers against the Rockies projected lineup. I’m surprised this number isn’t 7.5 considering how well he pitched in his last outing and this also would qualify as a favorable matchup.

Analysis

San Jose State went 3-9 last year, with the worst performances in their last three games. Coach Ken Niumatalolo only had two starters return, and they're both offensive linemen. Now he's got to face a USC team in the opener that is loaded this season, with nine starters back on offense, including senior quarterback Jayden Maiava, and five on defense. They have all five starters on the offensive line returning, and that's the biggest component I look at in these opening games. The cohesion is gonna be there, and apparently the boosters money is also there, as they had the No. 1 recruiting class in college football. I think USC could be the next Indiana this year. USC shows off for the nation.

Analysis

This game was moved from Brazil to Virginia, and the line jumped 2 points. I think that's a bit of an overreaction. I have these teams rated pretty close, and UVA doesn't have a huge home-field edge. I also think the Cavs are a bit overvalued coming off a 11-3 season. NC State is replacing a lot of production, but I think the Wolfpack have a more talented roster and are an interesting team in the ACC. Also, keep an eye on NC State QB CJ Bailey. He closed last season strong and could take a big step forward as a junior. I see this game going down to the wire, so I'll take the 5.5.
